The Wheeling Suspension Bridge is the oldest vehicular suspension bridge in the United States still in use and is listed as both a National Historic Landmark and Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. The bridge was designed by Charles Ellet Jr., who also worked on the Niagara Falls Suspension Bridge. Construction on the bridge began in 1847 and was completed in 1849. The bridge was the first to span the Ohio River.
The Wheeling Suspension Bridge is my favorite photographic site. I think I have probably more photos of just the bridge than all other photos combined. I have taken photos there at all times of the day, but my favorite time is at night… and if there is a full moon, BONUS!
